If you are rejoining the work force or being left with no option but to find a job when you’ve reached your 50’s, you may find the quest a challenge.
If you find yourself in this position, here are some recommendations:
Do not limit yourself to reading the want ads in the local paper. There are many job related sites on the internet. Some companies may chose to save money by using online sites. Posting jobs in the newspaper is more expensive than online job sites.
Promote a solution that your potential employer may need and that you can offer.
Emphasize your prior work experience without over doing it. You don’t want to seem arrogant about your experience.
Use social and online networking. Post your resume on appropriate online job sites. Join LinkedIn.
If you need to brush up on your computer skills or feel you are lacking in technology skills, take a class or ask someone who is technology savvy to help you.
If you get an interview, make sure your style is up to date. Your hairstyle and wardrobe although not necessary for your job, will help make a better impression.
